AIKEN- Jean Dees Hall passed away peacefully at her home on January 5, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010, in the chapel of Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home with interment to follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hall was born on May 23, 1936 in Daytona Beach, at Halifax Hospital, the second of twin girls. She was the daughter of Mr. John W. Dees and Mrs. Estelle Rowe Dees. She graduated from Mainland High School in 1954 where she was a state award winning drum majorette.

After graduation, she married Mr. Lewis Summerlin Hall of Gordon, GA, then moved to Aiken where they started their life together. She was blessed with two children, a daughter, Brenda Lee, and a son, James Fred II. Jean’s main occupation was a homemaker, but she also spent 16 years as a buyer for the children’s department at J.B. White Co. In Aiken, she was a member of First Baptist Church where she attended the Lecil Cushman Sunday School Class. She enjoyed her bridge club, and later in life was a member of the Red Hat Society. Throughout the years she enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping at Clarks Hill Lake, visits to Harbor Island, and spending time with her family.

Jean will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Her spirit touched a part of every person she met and left an imprint that will stay with them forever.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Peter) Stein of Aiken, S.C.; four grandchildren, Amy Stein, San Diego, CA, Jennifer Busbee Fishburne, Jessica Lynn Fulmer, and Melissa Jean Fulmer, all of Aiken; six great-grandchildren, Brice Fishburne, Summerlin Fishburne, Joseph Fishburne, Reagan Fulmer, and Tucker Christensen, all of Aiken, and Lily Stein-Oltchick of San Diego, CA; a brother, John Paul Dees of North Richland Hills, TX; and a sister, Grace Wooten, of Deleon Springs, FL.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Cohane of Atlanta, GA, Aaron Mills, Ralph Wilson, and Andy Seeby, all of Aiken, SC, Frank Fulmer of Jackson, and Richard Lee, of Deland, FL. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Fulmer of Beech Island, Dr. Nicholas Sanito of Aiken, SC, and Robert E. Lee of Deland, FL.

Visitation will be held on Friday January 8, 2010, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First Baptist Church, PO Box 3157, Aiken, SC 29803.

“In Heaven what will mother do…when her full life on earth is through?…Well, first I think she’ll take a rest…Be treated as an honored guest…Then she’ll look up her kith and kin…And after that she will begin…To cast about for jobs and chores…Like redding up or sweeping floors…Or minding babies, spreading cheer…And greeting friends as they appear.” -Julien C. Hyer
