AIKEN, SC -- Joe Wilson DeVore, Sr., 77, beloved husband of Julia Clinkscales DeVore, died suddenly, Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Born in Honea Path, SC, Joe was raised in Greenwood and was a son of the late Jesse Broadus and Carrie Timmerman DeVore. He received a BA degree from Furman University and was a graduate of The School of Banking of the South at LSU. He served as a 1st Lt. in the US Army in Germany. Joe was a retired Executive Vice President of Regions Bank, formerly Palmetto Savings Bank of SC. He served as Senior Lending Officer and Senior Credit Officer for the South Carolina division of Regions Bank. He was also a former Senior Vice President of Bankers Trust of SC. Joe was a retired Chairman of the Aiken Technical College Commission, Past President of Aiken County Heart Association, Founding President of Aiken Junior Achievement, past Treasurer of The Chamber of Commerce, an originating board member of Helping Hands and charter member and Past President of Kiwanis Club of Aiken. He was a member of Aiken's First Baptist Church and the Faith Explorers Sunday School Class. Survivors, in addition to his beloved wife Julia, include two sons, Joe W. (Janis) DeVore, Jr., of Haymarket, VA and Christopher W. (Janet) DeVore of Aiken; three grandchildren, Rachel DeVore, Rebecca DeVore and Luke DeVore of Haymarket, VA; a brother, Arthur Foster, Honea Path, SC and two sisters, Ruth F. Compton, Atlanta, GA and Betty Foster, Tampa, FL. Preceding Joe in death were a sister, Eugenia Rodigus and three brothers, Jack Foster, Charles Foster and Bob Foster. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Aiken's First Baptist Church, with The Rev. Dr. Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barry Adams, John Troutman, Jim Samsel, Keith Compton, Bobby Foster, Jim Foster, Raleigh Daniel and David Eagerton. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Kiwanis Club of Aiken and the Faith Explorers Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Shellhouse Funeral Home.
