Charles Gilbert "Gil" Mullins

AIKEN – Charles Gilbert “Gil” Mullins, 82, passed away April 13, 2018.He was born July 4th, 1935 in Welch, West Virginia, the first of four sons to Carl Stinson Mullins and Era Hinkle Mullins. He grew up in Bluefield, West Virginia and after graduation from high school served three years in the United States Marine Corps of which he was very proud. He earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from West Virginia University in 1960. His first position as an engineer was with Shell Oil Company in the production of crude oil in west Texas. He left that position to work for DuPont at various locations in Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina ending his DuPont career where he transitioned to the Westinghouse Savannah River Company. He retired in September of 1993. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Lynn H. Mullins, daughter Michelle M. Esbenshade (husband Tom) of Fredericksburg, VA, son Michael B. Mullins of Nampa, ID, brother Richard “Moon” Mullins, (friend Karren LaHue) of the Villages, FL, brother Randolph Mullins (wife Pam) of Wellington FL and granddaughter Caroline Esbenshade of Melbourne, Australia. His spouse’s children, Mark and Marcia Rubini, Toledo, OH, Brad and Julie Rubini, Toledo, Oh, Karla Chesser, Toledo, Oh, and Gail (Christian Tapernoux) Rubini, Eden Prairie, MN. He was preceded in death by his first wife of thirty years, Carolyn P. Mullins, brother David C. Mullins and daughter-in-law, Laura Mullins. He enjoyed golf, tennis, pickleball, duplicate bridge, recreational poker (win or lose a thimble of blood), and many Elderhostel trips in and out of the US. In his later years, he said what got him out of bed in the morning was an active interest in world economics and the stock market.   The family requests that expressions of sympathy be a donation in the name of Charles Gilbert “Gil” Mullins to www.woundedwarrior.marines.mil/CharitableGiving.A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 PM Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Houndslake Country Club.
